About Talon Running

I’m Dave Williams, the Head Coach and Owner of Talon Running. Running has been a huge part of my life, and I am excited to help you achieve your running goals!

Some years ago, I knew I wanted to live a life of excellence, but I just wasn’t sure how to get started. One night, my friend suggested that we start jogging, so we began with a few laps around the track and within a few weeks we decided to challenge ourselves by signing up for the historic Virginia 10-miler. I had a very hard time believing that I could run 10 miles! We trained all summer and accomplished our goal of finishing the VA 10-miler! The confidence I gained from that experience led to my joining the U.S. Army which became a career filled with adventure and experiences leading, training, and coaching tactical athletes in teams from 20 to 3,000+. From those first few steps around the track, I was able to find excellence serving with some of the absolute best people in the world - a life that would not have been possible without running!

I served as a leader in some of the U.S. Army’s most historic and elite units like the 101st Airborne Division, 10th Mountain Division, 1st Infantry Division, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade, where running was a crucial part of tactical athlete development and combat performance. During these years, I developed the mantra of Strength, Focus, Grip and practiced the operational method of Drill + Skill x Will to train, develop, and sustain excellence in my teams. Along the way I crossed the finish lines of numerous races from 5K to Ultramarathon distances!

Now, as a double certified running coach with UESCA and the RRCA, I’m excited to apply these methods to your training to help you achieve excellence!
